Promotions seem to be informal in the Department and work on merit, as well as networking. There is no clear lateral movement - its multi-directional. I appreciate the opportunities to complete secondments in other areas, to help with skill building but also building knowledge about the various work that the Department undertakes on a regular basis.

Culture
Hierarchical but not overly so, there are no issues approaching executive and communications across levels are encouraged. High level of cooperation and teamwork. Socialising amongst colleagues happens but is not necessary, it is both accepted to keep things professional or to become friends.

Diversity

Diversity
I think there is a good environment for women, and especially a lot of flexibility around parental leave and short term hours, as well as leaving work at different times for school pick up. As I am not a member of the LGBTQI+ community or have an Indigenous or CaLD background, I cannot comment on the effectiveness or inclusiveness of diversity measures in these areas.

Satisfaction
It depends on what area of the department you are in. I completed a rotation that was very fulfilling, with responsibility in stakeholder management and program delivery, and also a rotation where I was doing mainly admin work which was highly unsatisfying.
