Pros & Cons

  • Sharp & Carter is a wonderful company to work for, the supportive, inclusive and friendly culture starts at the top and trickles all the way down. Everyone you speak to will take time to get to know you and make you feel welcome.
  • Working with empowering and supportive women, and knowing I am contributing to a business making a difference.
  • The company culture, the support and the team bonding/extracurricular activities.
  • It's a growing company. Through working remotely, due to Covid, it doesn’t feel as personal or connected as initially thought.
  • Working with a large business where you don't always know who is a part of which team.
  • Sometimes it is tough working in the lesser established part of the business, as our needs are different due to our market.

During the lockdown, I haven't had the opportunity to commit to any initiatives, but know the company previously have committed to fundraisers and supporting campaigns like the World’s Greatest Shave, Food Bank Australia and Starlight AU.

Sharp & Carter is like a family. It rarely feels like there is a hierarchy. You can always have a conversation with people and know you're speaking with like-minded others. Outside of work hours your team still feel like they are friends where you can get along and communicate, knowing your team members actually care. Staff are generous, caring and understanding.

I work in an all-women team - I love the diversity that the company continues to employ with a range of nationalities but also to have women in leadership positions. Maternity leave and flexible working arrangements are offered for all employees not only for families.

My role includes sourcing, screening and summarising candidates and their experiences for our clients. I also interact with and manage the relationship with one client at this time and work on roles end to end. Part of my role is also to conduct business development to generate work and potentially seek out new clients.

My managers are excellent mentors, they make a conscious effort to understand how to best manage me to get results and keep me motivated. I get praise for things I do well and honest feedback on areas I need improvement because they want me to succeed. Communication lines are always open and transparent.

The dress code is smart casual - Not too corporate but still professional. Facilities are great, close to public transport, one central in the Melbourne CBD and another in the South East suburbs. Both are easy to get to with great amenities e.g. fridge, coffee machine, dishwasher, microwave.

Recruitment
There was a graduate day, where for a half-day you undertook an interview process which would normally take weeks if not months to go through. It was made up of a round-robin interview with all the consultants in the office and then a practical session where you undertook the basics of working in recruitment. Then there was a very informal Skype call with each partner, where we spoke about hobbies etc. These partners took the time to get to know you as a person. It was by far the best interview process I had been involved in as a graduate.

Currently, I'm not too financially motivated but either way, I am on an entry-level starting salary which lines up with what other graduate positions offer. The pay once you become a full consultant, I hear is very generous.

We have always had flexible working arrangements, before the pandemic most of our staff worked one day from home. This will continue and post-pandemic arrangements will remain to be flexible.

Utilising a shared office, while most of us are working from home it means we can alternate office space while decreasing our single use of our own office
