The Story of Samsung Australia

Samsung Electronics Australia is a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co Ltd, a South Korean company providing electronic devices and information systems equipment. Samsung’s business is organised across three independent business divisions: IT & Mobile Communications, Consumer Electronics, and Device Solutions.

Unlike many of its competitors which have limited or no direct manufacturing capability, Samsung is responsible for the manufacture of approximately 90% of the products it sells to consumers every year. In 2020, Samsung already had 230 operational facilities in 74 countries worldwide, including 36 production sites and a workforce totalling 267,937 employees.

Samsung entered the business telephone systems market in Australia in 1989 as a supplier of Telstra’s Commander HX products. Only in 1996, it introduced its own brand. Since then, more than 160,000 systems have been sold in Australia, and Samsung has established a strong reputation for cost-effective, feature-rich, and reliable systems.

Samsung Australia’s operations are centred at its head office based in Sydney, as well as at interstate offices in Melbourne (Victoria), Brisbane (Queensland), Perth (Western Australia) and Adelaide (South Australia). It consistently invests in innovation and becomes one of the fastest-growing technology companies.

Culture & vibe

At Samsung, you will learn different aspects of customer service, rapport building, sales techniques, collaboration and teamwork. The workplace is friendly and welcoming, with challenging projects and a fast-paced environment, but you will also learn to do multiple tasks, set priorities, and handle strict deadlines at times.

Open communication and collaboration cross-team is critical and encouraged when serving customers and helping others. The most enjoyable part of the job is being exposed to the latest technology and having access to a variety of hand-held products such as smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, earphones, etc.

Recruitment process

To apply for a suitable role, you need to go to Samsung’s Career page and search for the job by entering your desired designation and location. Before applying, you need to ensure that you meet all the eligibility criteria required and provide the relevant documents.

The recruitment and selection process at Samsung involves the initial phone interview, then an in-person interview with the team leader or/and manager. In this interview, the recruiters test the communication skill, personality traits, and general knowledge of the candidates.

The typical interview questions are basic questions about yourself and your relevant past experience. You may also be asked to answer questions like: what makes you a good candidate for this position, have you worked with KPI before, or why did you choose Samsung?

Depending on the role you are applying for, you may also need to take the Global Samsung Aptitude Test, Technical Test, or Technical Interview. The Global Samsung Aptitude Test will include aptitude questions and reasoning questions (to test your logical power) which have to be completed in a specific amount of time. If you pass all of the tests and interviews, they will also conduct a background check before deciding to hire you.

Career prospects

From an entry-level perspective, the opportunity to develop specific or hard/soft skill sets is noteworthy. The company also provides learning platforms and workshops for employees’ personal and professional development. However, the opportunities to grow become increasingly difficult the further one progresses with the business hierarchy. Several insiders also describe that as most of the departments are outsourced to different companies and are not managed by Samsung, there is less room for growth.
