Our Grad Program

Software Developer and Engineering Graduate Program

Our Software Development & Engineering Grad Program is designed for you to learn, grow, and make an impact.

We invest in developing your talents with training and mentorship, and we challenge you with engaging work that ensures you can make an impact and build your skills.

We appreciate unique and independent thinking, so don’t be afraid to speak up. As a grad, you will be exposed to different projects, teams, and ways of working and will be fully immersed into the REA culture.

Life as a Software Developer and Engineering Grad at REA is quite diverse. You’ll work with the latest full-stack tech and best practices like TypeScript and Functional Programming with Scala. In addition to this, you will:

  • Gain exposure to AWS and cloud technology.
  • Learn about new and emerging practices like event-driven architecture and micro frontends.
  • Work on a range of projects from new web apps, mobile apps and products.

Our program has ranked seventh on the Australian Association for Graduate Employers’ top 75 companies list 2023 and has been running since 2014. We have seen over 100 Graduates go through our program!

Upon completion of the 12-month Graduate program, you will be offered a permanent role at REA Group as an Associate Developer!

Recruitment Process

Our application process is three-fold, consisting of cognitive and psychometric testing, video interviewing and an assessment centre.

You can find the detail on our website.

Please note that our grad recruitment process puts people first and this really comes to life at our final assessment day stage. If you’re aware of a condition or disability that you feel will impact your participation during the recruitment process, please get in touch with us so we can help you navigate a solution.

Offer stage

We aim to complete our offer process by the end of May. This timing depends on the availability of our tech community which is heavily involved in the selection process.

We're very aware that our candidates are likely progressing in other grad recruitment processes, so we'll do our best to keep you updated on expected timelines while we work through your application and submissions.

Successful candidates are encouraged and supported to share any accessibility requirements and accommodations that will help them do their best work.

We love to improve things. That's why we survey everyone who participates at our assessment days, whether you've landed an offer on our program or just missed out. We're grateful to everyone who takes the time to give us their feedback as it helps us decide where to focus our energy and improve things for the next year.

Remuneration & Career Growth

Your home of career experiences.

At REA it's more than a job. It’s your career and we’ll back you all the way.

Career conversations will look different for each of us; they may be short informal weekly or fortnightly catch-ups, or dedicated deeper catch-ups at key points across the year.

No matter how often or how you choose to track your conversations and progress, this site has been created to provide you with guidance and tools to turn conversations into opportunities and growth.

We create the best possible environment for you to develop and succeed by opening up opportunities, supporting you to share your voice and keeping career conversations always on.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Highly talented colleagues who love to teach, great work-life balance, modern technologies and practices.
  • Undoubtedly the best thing about working at REA Group is the culture. Socially the type of people working there are the best of the best, whilst being really sociable and the learning culture riddled throughout day to day work is strongly supported.
  • There are a lot of learning opportunities available. The work is diverse and generally quite interesting The people you work with are skilled and mostly very kind.
  • Great culture, inclusiveness and a lot of opportunities to learn. Also being able to work on projects that follow really good software development practices.
  • Internal training. Company culture. Autonomy and trust to get objectives done. Can pursue other adjacent special interest areas. Opportunities to move around the company to different areas and fields.
  • The culture is great - space to grow and focus on self development. Diverse and welcoming people. Great work life balance.
  • The culture! REA Group has done an incredible job of an inclusive, supporting and encouraging atmosphere.
  • Worst thing about REA Group is probably the size of the company as a graduate whilst working from home was very challenging during COVID. It's hard to have any real understanding of the business as such a large company whilst rotating through smaller teams.
  • Too many meetings sometimes.
  • Getting larger, with scaling comes more corporate structure but still good at allowing individuals to grow.
  • The fact that it is a large company. There is something like 800 people just working in the Melbourne office. It's impossible to know them all and sometimes that makes it hard to know who the right person to reach out too for certain tasks is.
