Ashleigh Hoggard

I have learned a lot so far in my first couple of months in the team, having already been exposed to the preparation of company due diligence reports, business valuations and market research relating to IPOs and market merger and acquisition behaviour.

When I commenced at Nexia

I started my career at Nexia Sydney in August 2019 when I was an undergraduate student at Macquarie University, joining the business advisory team as a cadet accountant in my second year of university. I spent four and a half years working in this team, where I completed work for a variety of high-net worth individuals and businesses across a variety of industries. This role saw me engage in a variety of tasks, including the preparation of individual and company tax returns and business activity statements, preparation of financial statements and management reports for trusts and companies, processing of company payroll and communicating with the ATO when needed.

In early 2024, I moved service lines to the Corporate Advisory team. I have learned a lot so far in my first couple of months in the team, having already been exposed to the preparation of company due diligence reports, business valuations and market research relating to IPOs and market merger and acquisition behavior.

6.15 AM

After snoozing my alarm once or twice, I am up and ready for my bus into the city. As my gym is on the bottom floor of the office building, I will make a pitstop there before having a shower in the end of trip facilities and catching the lift to the office.

8.30 AM

I arrive in the office at around 8:30 am where I am greeted by my friendly work team. Before a busy workday, the team and I spend 15 minutes catching up over a cup of coffee in the lunchroom while we take in the great views of Darling Harbor.

8.45 AM

Now that I have had my morning coffee, it is time to check my emails and continue with work that I am responsible for. Today, I am assisting in the preparation of a due diligence report. My job today is to review a financial model for a client, assessing the reasonableness of their forecasted future cash flow assumptions. I draft up queries to that will need to be sent to the client in an excel document.

9.30 AM

It is now time for a workflow meeting with my team. At this time, our team comes together to discuss the current work that our team is completing and other work in the pipeline. Along with this, our team’s capacity is discussed, and work is allocated to each team member according to their capacity for the week.

10.00 AM

AKA shapes time... This is my favorite time of the day! It is now time to head back to the lunch room with some workmates to stock up on some shapes and tim-tams. Or, if I’m feeling healthy, some fruit!

1.00 PM

It soon becomes very quiet in the office. it’s already lunch time! Today is Friday, which unfortunately means netball is not on. However, the team is in and ready to grab a bite to eat! We head up the road to our favorite pub, where we enjoy the chicken schnitzel lunch deal of the day.

2.00 PM

Back to work we go, and we are ready to be productive again. I continue drafting my queries to be sent to the client before discussing with my manager the work I have done. Once I have received some feedback, off the queries go to the client before Monday morning’s meeting!

5.00 PM

Before I know it, it is now time to pack up, finalize my timesheet, and get ready for the weekend. Today is Friday, but it is not your average Friday. it is pub club Friday! Once a month, Nexians gather at a different monthly venue of choice to mingle with different members of the firm over nibbles and a drink. Tonight, we are off to Strike Bowling. It is a great way to reward ourselves after a productive yet fun week!
