8.00 AM

I woke up; made myself some breakfast and made some breakfast for my pet guinea pigs.

Log-on. Logged on at my home office - I have been predominantly working from home since the start of the covid-19 outbreak, as I can perform my duties at home safely without any constraints. I do miss the office life and meeting with my colleagues face to face, but I must say I am enjoying the (very short) commute to work!

WFH

8.30 AM

I had my first call of the day. The call was a discussion with a colleague located in the UK to take them through some of the supplier onboarding initiatives that I am currently working on. I asked them for their feedback, suggestions, and opportunities that they would like to see come to fruition.

As I am part of a global function, there are times that I reach out to my Procurement colleagues across the different CSL sites. As a result, my working hours are flexible to accommodate for any night or morning calls I may have. For example, if I have a late-night team meeting the day before, I will start the next workday later than the general 9am start.

I made myself a hot drink and went through what I have to cover for the rest of the day. As part of my morning work routine I like to listen to my favorite news podcast (they cover all the important news in 10 minutes), while I go through my daily planner, check & answer any urgent emails. I also worked on my current project - a dashboard that provides a snapshot of the suppliers we engage with in CSL for various activities.

10.30 AM

I prepared for my upcoming meeting with a Senior Quality member, to ensure that I covered all the points that I wanted to discuss with them.

11.00 AM

I had a productive meeting with Quality to discuss my initiatives. I showed them a supplier onboarding template I have been working on and listened to their feedback. In addition, I answered some of the questions and queries that they had about the timeline of the project, and brainstormed other ways we could align some of their function’s initiatives with my projects. I also set up a rough timeframe with them for a subsequent review of my onboarding template.

Lunchtime! Although I miss catching up for lunch with my fellow Graduates on-site, one benefit of WFH and living at home, is that I always have healthy and hot lunches readily available, which I am very grateful for. Moreover, on sunny days like today, I like having my lunch in my backyard - it is a great way to take a break from my multiple devices and watch nature do its thing.

01.30 PM

I had my weekly meeting with my manager. These weekly meetings are a great opportunity to unpack some of the things that I have been working on, discuss any areas I would like some advice & further guidance in and more importantly, discuss my ongoing development plan and progress.

03.00 PM

I send out some emails that I had planned to send out for the day, including meeting notes I had typed up from my calls. – I usually like to dedicate a 20-minute to 30-minute block in my day to reply and compose any emails.

04.30 PM

I start to wrap up my workday. I map out what I have on for tomorrow, including noting down any meetings I have, highlighting my top priorities and other mid to low priority tasks that I should focus on tomorrow.

R&R. After work, I usually unwind with some Netflix, exercise (70% of the time I end up watching Netflix), or work on my hobby. In addition, as restrictions have eased, the reduced commute to work has even allowed me to visit my friends during some weeknights, which has been great.

Today however, I decided to finish off a sewing project, while I watched some Netflix in the background.

Working as a Graduate in a global function, the hours may look a little different from time to time, but I appreciate the diversity & flexibility that comes with my role. It has allowed me to work with different parts of the business around the globe, without compromising my personal schedule!
