Pros & Cons

  • Opportunity to work with great people. Work interstate and internationally. Paid to work internationally for 6 months. Great social events. Feel supported.
  • White & case offer a robust graduate training program and there are many levels of support so you always feel challenged and supported.
  • The graduate program has proven to be a great learning experience. I have the opportunity to be exposed to many different kinds of work and partake in client-facing interactions. As a junior I find that I am tasked with more responsibility than my peers at other firms.
  • Guaranteed international rotation. This is definitely the highlight of the program.
  • International opportunities, modern workplace, above-average salary, diverse employees, sophisticated clients, after-hours benefits.
  • Administrative tasks, like entering time,
  • Pressure
  • While the work is interesting, the hours at the firm, and as a graduate, can be demanding.
  • Hours can be long sometimes and stressful
  • Long work hours during busy seasons.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Lots of initiatives. However, interesting that some initiatives (like LGBTQI+) are super important in some offices but not done in certain countries (i.e. not in offices in UAE) - obviously, there are some clear reasons for this but makes me question whether these things are actually important to the firm.

Culture

Culture
A hierarchy exists but you never feel it in a cultural sense as people in all different roles socialise and cooperate to achieve collaborative goals. The workplace is a very collaborative and supportive one and you are never made to feel silly for asking questions.

Diversity

Diversity
Tries to get everyone involved. Very international, diverse group of people from around the world. Also, there is good gender diversity.

Satisfaction
As a graduate, I'm responsible for supporting senior members of the team, keeping on top of workstreams, and other tasks typical of juniors. However, given the leaner nature of our teams, I also get significant exposure to clients and high levels of autonomy in completing work as I think appropriate - the team is always open to other perspectives and happy to discuss.

Management

Management
Supervisors are almost always present and easy to reach (whether working from home or in the office). Internal communication is candid, performance feedback is a bit lacking at times but juniors always get recognition for their work.

Office Work Environment
New office space in Sydney is very modern (transitioned to open-plan) and geared for comfort of employees (sit-stand desks, ergonomic keyboard/mouse, very comfortable chairs, ample meeting rooms for discussions). Partners also sit in open plan. Dress code is not official but typically smart casual every day unless you're seeing clients that day.

Interviewing is never fun, but the process involved a good mix of formal and informal interviewing and socialising. Opportunity is provided for you to showcase your true self and what you can offer to the firm and vice versa.
